Dream

It was a beautiful sunny day. The curtains were drawn, letting the rays of sunlight shine into the spacious living room. Cats rolled around on the floor in delight, enjoying the rare luxury of natural light for once. The scene would be perfect, if not for one brooding man, staring at his phone in shock.

Even amidst such wonderful weather, Junsu was troubled. He had just gotten off a phone call with his long time best friend, and something he said had disturbed him..

“Yah!! Servant!! I hear you’re coming out with a solo album!! Is that true??”

“Yes, your master is coming out with a solo album.”

Hyukjae had laughed and said cheerfully, “Awesome! I’ll be a nice master for once and treat you to a drink! Or wait actually, we should try to get Lee Teuk hyung to pay-“

“Drink?” Junsu had blinked in surprise. Had his servant forgotten about the promise he made with his master? Sure, it was made a long time ago. But the promise to not drink or smoke, that’s an important promise to keep, especially when it is made between a servant and his master.

Hyukjae suddenly started coughing nervously, “Ha uh I meant strawberry milk! Should I get Lee Teuk hyung to pay-“

“You’re drinking, Hyukjae?”

Junsu knows, from years of experience, when his servant is lying.

“Ahh oh no, the signal, it’s getting worse, I can’t hear you-“ -Obvious fake static sounds- “I’ll call you again later when the signal’s better bye Servant!”

And the line went dead.

Junsu was shocked. He needed to find out if it was true. But who to call? Lee Teuk hyung? No, he’ll lie for Hyukjae.

Junsu looked sadly through his contact list at the names of his former colleagues whom he now doesn’t talk to anymore.

And then, he saw the name, “Old Man”.

Yes, his reliable maknae would help bring his servant’s deeds to light! With a light though still slightly troubled heart, Junsu dialled the number of his favourite dongsaeng.

“Hello?”

“Changmin ah!”

“Ah hyung, what’s up?”

“I need to know, are you going to meet Hyukjae anytime soon?”

“Hmm..” Changmin’s voice slipped into thoughtful silence as he checked his schedule on the iPad. “Yeah, we’re gonna go for an MT with Hyukjae hyung and Lee Teuk hyung tomorrow. For a show called Joo Byun Jin Talk Concert. Why?”

Junsu sighed, “I suspect he broke our promise of not drinking. Can you check?”

“Okay hyung. Anything else?”

“Yeah, embarrass him well during the broadcast for me. I’ll watch!”

“Sure thing hyung.” In the background at Changmin’s end, Junsu could hear a Japanese announcement voice, “…plane is ready for boarding. Please remember to..”

Ah, so he’s in Japan now. I didn’t even know.

“Thanks Changmin ah. Say hi to Yunho hyung for me..” Junsu couldn’t help but feel subdued now. He can’t believe the state he had let himself get to. How could he not know what his brothers were doing?

“No problem. We have to go now hyung! Bye bye!”

And as they hung up, a jolt of realisation hit Junsu. Changmin.. he seems to have gotten used to how they are now.

Just as how he himself did.

——-

Changmin was really excited about the MT. This was something normal people his age actually did! His excitement was such that Yunho hyung’s indulgent knowing look didn’t annoy him as much as it would. Amidst all the excitement though, Changmin reminded himself, again and again, the special request Junsu hyung had asked. He held that request tightly, close to his heart, hoping he’ll manage to slip it into the show somehow so that Junsu hyung can see it for himself.

It was an enjoyable day despite the rainy weather. At the moment, Hyukjae hyung was talking about his feet. Changmin knew he should be asking the question now that Hyukjae hyung was talking. But how?

Changmin could sense Hyukjae was ending his story soon, and his chance would slip away if he didn’t do anything now. With a burst of courage, he asked, “I also want to know, I heard he said he has never smoked or drank for his entire life on some show.”

And Hyukjae took the bait.

With a satisfied smile, he leaned back. Now all he has to do now is relax and hope this won’t be edited out.

Later, he texted Junsu hyung, “Mission accomplished.”

——-

A few weeks later, the MT that Changmin was talking about finally broadcasted. With a sense of apprehension and nervousness, Junsu sat down in his big, empty living room and switched his TV on.

And it felt like something stabbed his heart straight through.

His Changmin, talking brightly and somewhat wistfully about what he thinks they’re going to do during the MT. Junsu could see the excitement Changmin was trying to hold back. That childlike light in his eyes, unhealthily absent for a boy his age. “Nothing much, just go there, barbaque meat, drink alcohol, play games..”

Junsu was reminded of a younger Changmin, expressing these same simple wishes on a day when all five were exhausted with activities.

Don’t worry Changmin! Junsu had told him. One day, we’ll go for an MT together! All five of us!

Changmin had responded with such innocent enthusiasm then, yes, and I’ll cook all the meat for you hyungs since you guys don’t know how to treat food well.

Yoochun had stretched out lazily onto the sofa, yawning, I’ll sleep while you cook then, Changmin.

Jaejoong had chimed in with a wry smile, Yah, we’ll have to wait til we’re married before we can go. There’s no time for any MTs now.

Yunho had countered dreamily, Then let’s go with our loved ones then! All five of us with our wives! How romantic!

Junsu would give anything to be able to fulfill his wish. He was amazed how well he could still remember these tiny snippets of conversations they had. It was times like these, he was thankful for his genius-like memory skills.

“For your information,” Yunho was saying thoughtfully to the camera, “we have never been to an MT before. Because we started working since young.”

Ah hyung, are you remembering what I’m remembering right now?

Junsu’s heart. He wonders if he can continue watching.

And then the question came up and completely distracted Junsu. Amazingly, as Junsu watched, like the pabo he is, his servant spilled the beans and basically confessed.

It was ridiculously effortless.

Calmly, as the confession finished, Junsu dialed that number.

“YAH LEE HYUKJAE YOU ARE DEAD!”

——-

A week later, having punished his servant and rewarded his partner in crime, Junsu now sat comfortably on his sofa, curled with his adorable cats. It was time for part 2.

It wasn’t so bad this time. It was sad how the stories told on the show omitted their names, but he understood. At least they’re not pretending like their past didn’t happen.

Towards the end, when Yunho revealed his wish, “I want to go on a trip, please recommend a place that would lead to an awesome trip”, Junsu decided.

He will make their promise all those years ago come true.

He will go on a trip with them. Just the five of them.

And he will start preparing for it.

With great determination and enthusiasm, after the show ended, Junsu googled for a nice place where no one could find them.

A place preferable with coconut trees.

And then.

Bora Bora.

That special place they had gone those years ago! Perfect.

He tweeted several pictures and texted Yunho hyung to check his Twitter.

Someday I will definitely go there again.. Together with the person I’m going to love.. Someday… For sure, the dream that I’ve had for such a long time.. Bora Bora~

Longing

It was really busy backstage after Tohoshinki’s concert at the most prestigious stage in Japan. Tokyo Dome. The place that they have worked so hard to get to. They were here, once again.

The difference this time, was significant.

The white ocean, the fans’ support; he felt he didn’t deserve such love and strength. Yunho felt so grateful and moved. He only wished, when they bowed to the fans at the end, instead of having just dancers next to them, he wished that those three people were there too.

Yunho sat at the dressing table, looking through the photos the staff took of Bigeast and Cassiopeia. The picture of the white ocean came up, and Yunho’s eyes threatened to tear up again. His promise with his grandfather, he kept it. He promised to cry only when he reached the very top. And that’s what he did. He only wished his grandfather was still here to see this..

Today would have been perfect, if not for one thing..

Changmin walked past and smiled, ruffling his hyung’s hair. His hyung had always put on a strong front for his fans, even when times were so hard. It was nice to see his hyung allow himself to be seen in such a vulnerable light. To be able to cry in front of so many people. That too, is a strength.

Changmin grabbed two bottles of water and sat in the chair next to Yunho, offering one to him. Yunho smiled thanks, and couldn’t stop a tear from sliding down again.

“Hyung..” What’s wrong?

“I.. I just wish they were here with us.. They were part of this after all.. We couldn’t have gotten here without them..”

Changmin remained silent. Even though he had somewhat forgiven his hyungs for leaving, he didn’t see why Yunho was feeling this way. This stage belonged to the two of them, at least for now. They were the ones who chose to stay and continue the climb.

But with a pang, as Changmin surveyed the empty changing room, he wished those three people were here with them too. It felt strange to be in the same room where all five of them were in those years ago. This time though, it was not as five, but as two. He remembered how he battled with Yoochun on Nintendo in that corner while waiting for rehearsals to start. How Junsu would do his stupid dances on that coffee table to energise them all. Changmin began to feel something prickling at his eyes.

Yunho grasped his maknae’s hand and gave a tiny squeeze. It’s okay.

Just then, Yunho’s phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Yunho yah! How was the concert at Tokyo Dome??”

Yunho put the phone on speaker as Changmin went to lock the door.

“It was.. good.” Yunho answered, with a strange tone to his voice.

“Hyung cried today on stage.” Changmin said.

Stunned silence from the other end.

Yunho tried to laugh it off, but why did it sound so bitter?

“Ah-h.. You cried, Yunho? I-I see.. The concert.. must have been perfect then, if you.. yeah..”

Yunho said quietly, his voice conveying the hurt and pain inside. “No, it wasn’t perfect..” You guys weren’t there..

Silence from the other end.

“Why don’t you come back now, Jaejoong ah? The stage belongs to the five of us. TVXQ is five. You guys should be here next to us right now, instead of being a phone call away.”

Changmin closed his eyes. He didn’t want to talk about this issue that has been plaguing them for so many years.

“Why is it taking so long for you guys to come back? Didn’t you say things were being discussed right now? Why are you guys not here?”

Silence. Yunho wonders if there was anyone left on the other end.

“I’m sick of this. Of you three suddenly not talking to our SM Family just because of this stupid lawsuit. All those years spent training together, Jaejoong ah.. Did those years mean nothing to the three of you, if you guys could cut contact so easily with the rest of our friends?”

“Hyukjae and Junsu still go out together, Yunho!” Jaejoong replied defensively.

“Then what about you? I don’t think you talk to anyone other than us anymore. Not BoA, not even Heechul hyung. It feels like, the longer this drags on, the longer the silence, the unlikelier you’ll come back. I’m sick of this. You three should be here but you’re not. And I really hate that.”

In Yunho’s eyes, Changmin could see the pent up anger that he has been keeping in for so long. Yunho’s kind nature had always been subduing the other sides of him. Changmin wonders if tonight was the time Yunho will let it out.

Jaejoong was silent for a while. “It’s not that I don’t want to contact them anymore. It’s just.. they hate us for leaving, don’t they? There isn’t any point..”

Changmin cut in, “Then, why don’t you try? Instead of assuming they hate you -which they don’t- why don’t you make the first move? It’s already hard on us, being restricted by them on so many levels. You guys are free. Why don’t you do something?”

Silence, and then, “Look out for something on Twitter.” The line went dead.

Yunho threw his phone onto the table. It hit the digital camera, which lit up. The picture of the white ocean came up again.

“Screw this, let’s go celebrate.”

And they left the room in silence, so very different from a similar situation years ago. It was hard to believe, this was the very same room from which they had left laughing together as five, never realising that that was their last time leaving it, whole.

——-

Jaejoong took a deep breath as he prepared himself to dial a number he had so painstakenly sought for. He had to make a call to someone who wasn’t controlled by his former company to get the real number. He had to call Hankyung.

It was nice talking to his old friend again. He was probably the only other person who understood how the three of them felt. Jaejoong hoped he’ll come back to Korea for drinks together one day.

Jaejoong touched his phone. It lit up to show five grinning faces posing together for a selca. I can do this.

He dialled, nervous. The last time he talked to Heechul, it was when he had helped them to arrange a meeting. Sadly, Jaejoong realises, the lack of schedules meant lesser opportunities to meet up, and hence lesser time to talk.

“Hello?”

“H-hyung. Hello. Jaejoong here. How are you?”

Jaejoong heard a disbelieved laugh from the other end. “Yah, you finally call? About time, jashik ah. How did you get my number?”

“Hankyung hyung..”

“Yahh you really went so far huh..”

It was awkward, not talking for so long. But gradually, Jaejoong slipped into the old familiar banter he had always had with Heechul. Soon, they found themselves laughing over Yunho’s latest fashion at the airport.

Jaejoong grinned as Heechul started spilling the latest gossip in the company. Heechul had always been his source of information about his colleagues too.

“That prank on Twitter, that was really fun. Sullie really enjoyed it haha.”

“Yeah.. talking about Twitter.. Hyung, can I follow you?” Jaejoong asked hesitantly. Asking such a thing and doing it would have unimaginable consequences. But he wanted to prove to Yunho that he could rise above the lawsuit and remain friends with the people he practically grew up with.

“Yeah sure of course! I’ll follow you too! Woah the fandoms will go crazy, this will be fun!” Heechul’s gleeful voice put a smile on Jaejoong’s face.

As they hung up, Jaejoong felt relieved. At least he got one of his friends back. Now, to see if Yunho really did cry.

Jaejoong went online, and saw the stage at Tokyo Dome. He saw the huge, massive, beautiful red ocean. And when it turned white.. A lump formed in his throat. Yunho and Changmin’s song during the white ocean was so beautiful. And with a pang, Jaejoong reads that it was composed by the same person that created W.. Did Yunho and Changmin know about this one connection? Were they thinking of them during this song? Was this song about them?

Then, Jaejoong finally understood what Yunho was trying to get at. It doesn’t matter that they were just a phone call away. Absent-mindedly thinking of the people you miss, and not doing anything about it, it isn’t the same as being with them. Being together with the people you miss, that’s when things become more meaningful. That’s when you’re truly living.  I’m sorry Yunho.. I wish I could do more..

“I understand now, Yunho..” Jaejoong says softly as he typed something on Twitter, hoping somehow Yunho will see it,

“누군갈 그리워하며 멍하니 숨만쉬는것=살아도사는게아닌것”

Absent-mindedly breathing while longing for someone = Not being alive even though you’re alive

Recovery

It was a quiet morning. The sun was just about to rise, bringing with it gentle rays across the lightening sky. Yoochun breathed in deeply, his heart at peace, his eyes tired, tired of crying, tired of looking at people, tired of seeing..

The past month had been a horrendous one and shook them all to the core. Yoochun tried not to cry again as he remembered for the thousandth time, that fateful phone call he received in Peru..

“Yoochun ah, Yoohwan’s on the phone.”

“Okay. Hey my favourite brother, what’s up?”

“Hyung.. I-it’s Dad.. Something’s gone wrong..”

“What do you mean?”

“He.. He’s dying..”

Yoochun closed his eyes as that heart-wrenching part of the memory surfaced again against his will. He wished it could all just be kept shut in a box, until he felt ready again to bear the pain..

“Dad!! DAD?! Talk to me!”

“Yoochun ah.. I’m sorry.. You should be focusing on your concert.. The first Korean artists to go to Peru.. My son..”

“Dad, please, hang on, I’m gonna catch the first plane I can back-“

“It’s too late Yoochun ah..” Cough, cough. A deep raspy breath. “It’s time..”

“No Dad, not yet, please hold on for me-“

“I’m proud of you, my son.. and I’m sorry for letting you down all these years..”

“No Dad I-“

The line went dead.

Yoochun hadn’t realised, as Jaejoong and Junsu wrapped their arms around him, that he had collapsed onto the floor. He hadn’t realised, his phone had slipped out of his hand, showing the display picture of him, Yoohwan and their dad, smiling brightly at the camera. All he realised was..

His dad..

He wasn’t here anymore.

——-

“Yoochun-shii, it’s your turn to film soon, please come out whenever you’re ready!” A staff of his drama called to him. Yoochun was thankful he was facing away from the door of the changing room as he tried to discreetly wipe away his tears.

“Okay, I got it.” He tried to sound cheerful and hoped he did. He didn’t want his situation to affect the atmosphere of the drama. No, he won’t allow himself to be a burden anymore than he already is.

Yoochun remembered how his members were there for him even during the funeral.. It was so hard on Jaejoong and Junsu, both of whom were equally exhausted as him but still kept such a strong front for him. For them, and for his two other brothers, he must recover again..

He remembered a bouquet of flowers sent anonymously during the funeral with just a simple note; Life. Everyone assumed it was from the fans, but Yoochun knew who it was from. The bouquet brought back a special memory of a conversation with someone..

“Changmin-ah, life must go on. It’s just an iPod. Jaejoong hyung said he’s sorry..”

“Life? That iPod is my life hyung! My life is gone!”

“No it’s not! You’re still living! Your life is here!”

Yoochun got up and stretched, reflecting on his own words he said those years ago. As he stepped out, the serenity of the calm streets touched him. His head felt clear. He tweeted, to show his fans that he was gonna be okay, and to show that someone that he understood..

Life…

——-

Yoochun was reading his mentions on Twitter as he waited for filming to start. He was touched that his fans cared so much. He thought everything was over, what with the audio clips going viral over the internet. He decided to ease their worries by tweeting more. It’ll also keep his mind occupied anyway, from those thoughts..

Waiting…

He was glad he had the drama to keep his mind off things. He was glad Yoohwan had one too.

Throughout the day, his mind was kept occupied with scripts, acting and whatever nonsense the cast came up with to kill the waiting time. He was grateful all of them were trying to help him so much. Even some of the staff tried to keep him occupied by telling him the most trivial stories. It reminded him so much of Yunho hyung, whom, whenever things get tough, would point out the smallest gifts in life, even the weather, to cheer them up. Yoochun was always amused at the leader’s ability to cheer him up.

A few days later, Yoochun got a text. He couldn’t help but smile as he saw the sender and the message; “The skies are so calm today, isn’t it nice, Yoochun ah? ^^ Hmm.. I might not be with you right now, but know that I care. Hwaiting~!”

Yoochun’s heart. It finally felt at ease. Finally, after so long.

I can rest for two hours… The skies are so calm… And my heart is too..

——-

As Yoochun ended filming for the day, without thinking he automatically dialed that number he’d always call after a long day just for a quick chat.

Then he realised yet again, as the dial tone rang on, no one was gonna answer. He should get used to this, why doesn’t he remember? This person.. he wasn’t here anymore..

”.. Leave a message and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can.”

Maybe, as Yoochun hung up again, all he really wanted was to hear that voice again.

Maybe all he wanted was to pretend that the voice still existed.

Even if it was just a voice recording made months ago..

Yoochun couldn’t help it. He dialed it again, tears blurring his vision yet again as he looked out into the darkening sky. This feeling, will it ever go away?

I miss you.

_____________________________________________________

Everyone was silent. All eyes looked towards the lanky young man nibbling on his Pocky stick. He seemed to enjoy creating this tension by biting his Pocky stick loudly and firmly. Tok. Tok. Tok.

“C-Changmin ah.. Annyeong..” Said a soft, very hesitant voice. He was ignored.

“Yah Jashik! Jaejoong hyung just greeted you. Aren’t you gonna greet him b-back..?” Said a rather high-pitched voice which faltered at the look in the young man’s eyes.

“Changmin ah.. How have you been?” A warm voice asked cautiously. He too was ignored.

Yunho sighed. He was used to Changmin holding grudges. The problem was not when the grudge would diffuse, but how.

It had been so hard trying to arrange a meeting for all 5 of them after the split. Yunho’s fingers have gotten considerably much stronger from texting Jaejoong so much. Where to meet, when to meet.. The timings and venues kept changing due to sudden schedule changes. It was a miracle they were even here in this dark private room in a noraebang somewhere in the back alleys of Seoul.

“Changmin, don’t you have anything to say? We haven’t seen them for so long after all..” Yunho patted his maknae’s shoulder.

“Nope. I have nothing to say to the hyungs who left us even though they kept saying we were all going to be together forever.”

“So you’re just gonna ignore us?” Junsu asked in disbelief.

Tok. Tok. Tok.

They sat there in awkward silence while Changmin nibbled threateningly on his Pocky. Yunho sighed and looked apologetically at his three members.

“I’m sorry guys, we have to go now. Our next schedule’s in an hour..”

He locked eyes with Jaejoong and smiled reassuringly, “Don’t worry, I’ll get this idiot to talk to you guys again. Somehow.”

Ignoring Changmin’s “OW”, a result of Yunho’s not very gentle ruffle of his hair, Yunho got up and pulled his three brothers into a tight hug, like they had always done in the past.

“I’ll miss you guys.” He said softly, a sad smile on his face. Who knows when they can meet again.

Yoochun was biting his lips, as though trying to hold something in. He simply nodded as he let his hyung go.

Junsu sighed and whispered nervously, “Would it help if we meet at a restaurant next time? Not that it’ll be easy..”

Changmin rolled his eyes, “I heard that and no, it - “

“Changmin ah.” The unexpected interruption came from Jaejoong.

Everyone focused on the pretty eyes that seem to be clouded with.. amusement?

Changmin pretended he hadn’t heard his hyung’s interruption. He stubbornly faced the wall, tok tok toking away on his Pocky stick.

“You may be angry with us now, but I hope you remember.. my Kimchi Chigae.”

Yunho flashed a wide grin at Jaejoong as he noted a slight tic in Changmin’s eye.

“Ah, your Kimchi Chigae.. I miss it Jaejoongie!” Yunho added.

Junsu tried not to laugh, “Yeah, it’s gotten a lot better now hyung. You should try it again!”

“Yeah, I hope I’ll be able to soon.” Yunho agreed, as he nudged Changmin to his feet to leave for their schedule.

As Changmin passed them and left the room, Yoochun caught that glazed-eye look that Changmin always had whenever they snacked together at night. That look of bliss whenever he had that special bowl of Kimchi Jigae all to himself. Yoochun grinned and hi-fived Yunho on his way out.

Even though Changmin was still not budging on his grudge, Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong were happy to see their two members again after so long. That familiar feeling of simply being in the same room.. How they’d miss that..

They smiled as they heard Yunho going on about Jaejoong’s cooking to a very disturbed Changmin.

Remember that Kimchi fried rice, Changmin ah? Oh my god it was so heavenly I could just TASTE it now. Remember the smell when he poured his special..”

Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong smiled to each other.

All will be well.

[Futuristic Post] He Was Home

Jaejoong couldn’t believe it. He was back here. This room which was both a haven and hell for him since he was 16. He was back.

The smell of the wooden floor touched on something familiar deep inside him. He couldn’t help but bend down to touch what he had once taken for granted.

“Jaejoong ah, what are you doing?” Yunho laughed, spotting his best friend in a curious squatting position as he walked into the practice room.

“I just.. nothing.” Jaejoong smiled and straightened up, brushing non-existent dirt from his jeans. His heart squeezed at the sight of Yunho in this practice room again. Then, as he saw Junsu dashing into the room with Changmin chasing him, laughing his heart out, with Yoochun strolling behind, smiling, he felt as though his heart would burst from happiness.

They were back.

They were back.

It was not easy, after the truce, to smooth out the bumps and bits that were left between JYJ and SME. It was a tedious, hair-tearing process but their strength continued. For the fans. For them. Finally, after much bullying from both sides, both reached a compromise. Given the success of JYJ’s albums without promotions, the shareholders had all supported the idea of DBSK gaining full control of their musicality and work. Yunho and Changmin were a little apprehensive at first, but they too were relieved that finally, the leash around their necks have loosened.

This was, in Jaejoong’s opinion, the most important thing that should happen.

Of course, JYJ and their company had to make huge sacrifices as well. Cjes was now a part of SME, specialising in the management of DBSK. True, they now had to answer to SME, but given the contract terms of DBSK having free reign, this wasn’t so bad.

And the fans’ reactions of course. Jaejoong grinned in spite of himself as he thought of what he saw online. Stalking his fans has never been a more joyful affair.

“Hyung!” Changmin landed his fist on Jaejoong’s arm, “We gotta practise now! Stop daydreaming!”

Jaejoong flashed Changmin a smile of annoyance, rubbing his now sore arm. But still, it was nice to have something to do again. It was nice to not be blocked again. It was nice to be DBSK.

The afternoon was spent practising their old songs for the reunion concert. Tickets had sold out barely 5 minutes after sales opened. And that was for both days. Jaejoong was already thinking of doing a world tour as 5. After they released an album.

As Junsu’s eu kyangkyang bounced off the walls, as Yoochun’s distinct laugh mingled with Yunho’s, as Changmin’s crunching of chips was heard, Jaejoong knew.

He was home.

——-

“Alright guys get ready!” The director popped in, giving Yunho and Changmin a quick glance. The other three were ignored.

It kinda hurt, when some of the staff still considered JYJ as traitors. But Junsu knew, these things take time. Time will heal all.

Junsu stretched, nervous yet excited to see his fans as DBSK’s Xiah Junsu again. He had always been troubled during the split, for he had kept “Xiah” in his autograph despite working under the name Kim Junsu. It didn’t felt right then. But now, everything felt okay.

Well, almost, anyway.

Yunho smiled apologetically at his old friend, squeezing his hand encouragingly. I’ll protect you.

Junsu squeezed back. Okay.

As they got up, Yunho took a deep breath.

“Okay guys, let’s do our best today! Who are we?”

“Dong Bang Shin Ki!”

Who are we??”

“DONG BANG SHIN KI”

“DONG BANG DONG BANG, FIGHTING!”

The director had just passed the room just at that moment. Junsu’s eyes accidentally locked onto hers. Junsu gave a small smile. Before she could help herself, she smiled back. Flustered, she hurried on.

But with that one small smile, Junsu’s heart eased up slightly. It may take a while for everyone in the company to accept them again. But he knew.

He was home.

——-

The concert surpassed even the highest expectations of it. An incredible number of fans turned up at the concert, breaking their own record.

It began aptly with Hug, and moved on chronically through the eras. The Way You Are.. Tri-Angle.. Rising Sun.. O.Jung.Ban.Hap. .. Purple Line.. Mirotic. At the end, they all revealed what the fans had long knew, that Yunho and Changmin’s comeback album as a duo was actually meant for 5. “And so,” Yunho shouted into the mike, slightly breathless, staring into the crowds, “We’re now gonna perform Maximum. All 5 of us!”

Yoochun remembered 3 years ago, when they were practising this song, all of them knowing that they were never going to perform it as 5. The atmosphere was stifling, uncomfortable and awkward as hell. Today, the hurt from then was healed.

Yoochun couldn’t help but be the first to cry again. As they all stood together as 5, just talking to the fans and each other, the wounds inflicted started to pale. Watching the fans cry, smiling through their tears, Yoochun felt so grateful and indebted to them, to those that waited.

“And finally,” Yoochun shouted, as he finally managed to get himself under control, “We’re gonna perform our last song today. Thank you all, for Always Keeping the Faith.”

They performed W, this time with the harmony of all 5. The lyrics were changed appropriately, but the song remained essentially the same. It was beautiful. Not a single person was left with a tear unshed.

By the end of it all, all 5, together with the fans, were crying. But these were tears well spent. Tears that were worth crying for a moment so wanted. Looking at his maknae, the ever so strong Changmin, wipe his tears, hitting anyone who tries to hug him, at Yunho backhugging anyone who just happened to be in front of him, at Junsu grinning with a tear-streaked face, at Jaejoong who had a strange expression as he looked at the fans, Yoochun knew.

He was, finally, home.

A New Beginning

Imma try something new for this post xD This will be short..

_________________________________________________________________

I daren’t breathe as I read the short note that has been retweeted so many times on Twitter. It was spreading like wildfire all over the internet.

“The lawsuit is over. Both sides have decided to take back their case. It is a truce.”

The lawsuit.. is over?

I blinked as I see my fandom friends talking about it on Twitter, Tumblr.. Everywhere. What’s going to happen now?

Will they.. come back?

——-

I finally see the news making headlines in the official press. It was the number 1 search topic on all the search websites. Pictures of JYJ walking out of the courtrooms, expressions revealing nothing. It was as though nothing significant had happened in that room.

What is going on?

——-

U-Know Yunho has made a Twitter account!

What?! No! No way, it’s not real!

Yes it is! It’s listed on SME’s TVXQ webpage!

A strange sense of fear crept into my heart as I searched for this rumored Twitter account. No it can’t be true.. It’s too good to be true..

My heart caught in my throat as I saw the bio description.

U-Know Yunho’s official Twitter.

My heart pounded as I saw that tiny tick beside his name.

And then, I saw the number 3, right above the word ‘Following’.

How can the tears shed now be so different from those shed then?

I laughed through my tears, thankful I’m at home alone in my room, as I finally managed the courage to read his first and only tweet:

@mjjeje @6002theMicky @1215thexiahtic: 얘들아 안녕! 나야! ^^

Hi Kids! It’s me! ^^

“You sure you’re not coming, Changmin ah?”

Yunho asked as he struggles to pull on his boot. Half-hopping about with his boot half-on, he tried his best to shoot Changmin a disapproving look.

“Hyung, Jaejoong hyung broke my iPod. He. Broke. My. iPod. And it’s not even the first time! Remember-“

“Okay okay.” Yunho cut in, before Changmin could commence his trademark nagging. “He didn’t mean to, you know. All he wanted was to download his new compositions into it for you to listen to. He didn’t mean to wipe out your iPod.” Yunho reasoned, slightly out of breath as he finally decided to collapse on the floor to finish pulling his boot on.

“He didn’t just wipe it out, hyung.” Changmin gave Yunho an incredulous stare from his position at the sofa, his iPad on his lap. “I don’t know what he did but now it can’t even be switched on!” Changmin was still very much butthurt as he turned back to his iPad.

Yunho smiled at his maknae, now tapping furiously on his iPad. He gave a big sigh as he got up. “Okay, Changdol ah. Hyung will buy you a new one, okay?” He ruffled his maknae’s hair as he grabbed his keys.

“Have fun at the company party later!” Yunho called out. Changmin replied, nonchalantly, “Uh~”, attention fully focused on his iPad. Sighing, Yunho turned to go. As he closed the door behind him, he could hear a low muttering, “Can’t believe he broke it again.. Stupid Jaejoong hyung.. Forever breaking my iPod.. How can anyone be so stupid I don’t even know..”

——-

Changmin was debating over which iPod he should get when his phone rang;

“Changmin ah! Where are you? Are you coming?”

“Ah-h Siwon hyung! Y-yeah I’m on my way to the restaurant now.” Changmin jumped up in alarm as he checked the time. He hurriedly went to check himself in the mirror on the way to his wardrobe.

Shit I can’t believe I forgot the time. I’m gonna be late.

Changmin felt another wave of irritation as he saw a new mustache forming on his upper lip. Damn it, he has no time to shave now. There’s no choice, he has to leave the house like this.

“Okay see you there Changmin! I’ll pray for your safe arrival!” Siwon’s cheerful reply came before they hung up.

Changmin had only one thought as he left the house.

Stupid Jaejoong hyung. This is all his fault.

——-

“Hyuuuuung!!” Yunho was met with a high-pitched voice as he followed behind his best friend into the spacious apartment. Yoochun grinned widely as he engulfed his ex-roommate in a big hug. Yunho laughed as he pulled Junsu into the hug. It has been so long. All three of them began talking and catching up, all ignoring that lone figure collapsed face down onto his own sofa.

The three went to sit onto the sofa adjacent to the one already occupied, still chatting animatedly with each other.

Jaejoong, feeling peeved at being ignored, said loudly into the sofa, “My life is in imminent crisis here!”

The three stopped and blinked. “Oh you mean the iPod? Yeah you’re quite dead. Changmin’s really pissed off.” Yunho answered conversationally, sitting back into the sofa.

Jaejoong gave his best friend the death stare before talking into the sofa again. “What am I gonna do? He didn’t come! This means he is going to kill me!”

Yoochun cheered, earning him his own death stare.

“Buy him a new iPod then.” Junsu suggested, stretching out across Yunho and Yoochun.

“Nah, I think you have to make it two iPods. He still remembers last time.” Yunho said, sympathetically this time.

“What? But I only bought one!” Jaejoong indicated the box lying on the dining table, nicely wrapped with Hello Kitty wrapping paper.

“Then buy one more.” Yunho shrugged.

“Yeah, we should call Changmin now to tell him so that he doesn’t start preparing for the One Touch.” Yoochun added. Jaejoong’s pale complexion turned ever so slightly paler.

“Don’t worry Jaejoongie! Changmin has gotten a lot better at controlling his strength. He’s really good at it now!” Yunho tried to reassure Jaejoong as he took out his phone.

“YAH YOU THINK THAT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER?”

——-

“Hello?” Changmin answers after excusing himself from the table. He was at the restaurant, thankfully making it just before Teacher Lee Soo Man did. He smiles as he watches Heechul mess about with Siwon and Jungmo.

“Changmin ah, Jaejoong said he’ll buy you two new iPods!” Yunho’s voice replied cheerfully.

“Really?” Changmin answered doubtfully, watching Brian take a photo of the rest of the SM Family at his table:

pic.twitter.com/i0bUBvVL

“Yeah! He’s only got one so far but still, come on over and get it, Changmin ah! Jaejoong hyung cooked your favourite food! And I miss you! Junsu needs to be bullied!” Yoochun’s voice chimed in.

“What? I never get bullied! I’m the one doing the bul-“

“Jaejoong hyung you promise?” Changmin cut in, smirking while Yoochun and Yunho erupt in laughter.

“Y-yeah. Okay. Two iPods, I promise.” Came Jaejoong’s weak reply.

“Okay, just to make sure, I’ll remind you again through Twitter!” Changmin feels a certain amount of satisfaction as he hangs up amidst Junsu’s “What Twitter? You have-“

As the idea forms in his head while he watches his colleagues take more group shots, Changmin’s mood got decidedly better.

He can’t wait to get to his second dinner.

——-

Yunho receives a text from Changmin, telling him to go check Brian’s Twitter. Yoochun, Yunho and Junsu all laughed while Jaejoong forced a smile which turned into more of a grimace.

Remember hyung. TWO iPods! ^^

Hanging @guitarjm, Changmin (Max), and me... It's always good catching up with old buddies.. 저 (Trax)정민이랑, 동방신기 창민이랑 같이
